When: Wednesday, March 17, 11:30 am – 1:00 pm Pacific time
Where: Zoom. Invitations going out separately (If you turn your camera on please remember to wear pants)
What: Monthly Technology Wizards meeting, delayed by a week
If nothing else, the last year in our industry can be described as interesting. (Did anyone say anything about ancient Chinese curses?) We’ve had security and other issues in remote meeting services. That’s included things like Zoom bombing, supposedly intelligent adults “pleasuring” themselves on camera during business meeting, or just people being in meetings who weren’t supposed to be there. There was a very serious (and well executed) take over of widely used RMM software, which some of our members use or used. Most recently we had a very scary Exchange hack. Many of these things were beyond zero day, they’d been exploited in the wild long before they were known about.
The question facing Technology Wizards is what do we do about all of this, both to prevent and mitigate it. We don’t have the resources that large MSP’s have, let alone what Enterprises have. We also don’t have all of the headaches and vulnerabilities they have. We COULD stick our fingers in our ears and sing very loudly, but that won’t accomplish very much. We COULD close up shop and let someone else deal with. Or we could use our considerable experience and intelligence and help each other somehow.
So, for this meeting we need you to bring your questions and thoughts. If you have experiences with any of this, avoiding, detecting, mitigating we’d love to hear from you. What worked, what didn’t work. How did the theory differ from the reality? (For instance, how painless was it to actually get the virtual StorageCraft server back into production until you resolved the hardware issue?)
This meeting will be highly dependent on members to be successful, so please show up, and please be ready to participate.
