Our next Technology Wizards meeting will be Wednesday, May 11th, 12:00pm – 3:00pm at the Microsoft PacWest office located at 1414 Northrup (in the Pearl district).
Over the years some of the most fascinating Technology Wizards discussions have happened before or after our regular meetings, or were a side conversation while we were getting things ready. This month we’re going to bring one of those most common discussions forwards and showcase it.
The Future is Cloudy
Regardless of what you think about it, the cloud is here and a part of the business world. Not only do we have cloud based backups and security schemes, but significant LOB applications are available in the cloud, and some of them seem to be moving towards cloud-only availability. A properly paranoid security professional stays up at night worrying about the potential impacts of social media or file sharing sites and utilities on the networks they protect. Now with the release of Windows 10 someone can install apps on their business computer that formerly were solely the province of their smartphone.
The big question is, what do we do about all of this? We’ve talked around it at various meetings as part of another discussion, and we pick apart parts of it before or after the meetings, but we’ve never really focused on it before. Now here’s your chance.
Bring your questions, bring the things you’ve been wondering about but haven’t been able to look into yet, bring the answers you’ve settled on already. Even bring the things that terrifies you about the cloud. Whatever it is, it’s open for discussion. We’re not going to limit ourselves to just talking about the technology and how to manage it, but the human side of it (meaning users and managers at our clients) and how to manage *them*.
PARKING: There are a couple of lots between NW 15th & NW 16th and NW Johnson & NW Kearney or NW Kearney & NW Lovejoy with the entrance to either lot on Kearney Street (located under I-405), a parking garage located above the Safeway on 14th between Lovejoy and Marshall of or any other public parking facility nearby. There is a fee to park. Plan to arrive early to find parking as it has really been filling up lately.
I’m really looking forward to seeing you all and to your active participation in these discussions! We all have something unique to our business and experience, let’s bring it together and show why Technology Wizards is such a unique and valuable group.
